Who each is for
TextNow is for people who want a free second number and don’t mind ads. The free plan is ad-supported, and you can pay for add-ons such as Ad-Free+ or Lock In Number, which keeps your number from being recycled if it goes inactive. It’s built for personal use, which suits texting friends, sign-up forms or a number you won’t need for long.
2Line.AI is for a number you’ll print on a truck or a website. It’s a paid line with no ads, the number stays yours while your plan is active, and business texting is registered with US carriers during setup. On top of calls and texts, Mia answers the calls you miss in your business name and books the job.
What a typical day looks like with each
With TextNow
A customer finds your number on a flyer and calls while you’re with another client. On a free personal number, the call goes unanswered and they may leave a voicemail, and you call back later from the app. If you’d gone a while without using the number on the free plan and hadn’t paid to lock it in, it could have been recycled, and the flyer would point to someone else.
With 2Line.AI
On 2Line.AI, the caller hears Mia greet them with your business name. She takes their name, what they need and a good time, and books it if it fits your hours. If you’d set missed calls to go to voicemail instead, they get your missed-call text within moments. Either way, you open the app to a written slip, and the number on the flyer stays yours as long as your plan is active.

Switching from TextNow to 2Line.AI
- Pick a new local number in 2Line.AI from the area codes near you. Porting isn’t supported, so this is a new number, not your TextNow number moved over.
- Set your business name, hours and caller ID name (up to 15 characters). Teach Mia from your business name or website, then call the new number from another phone to test her.
- Keep TextNow running while you switch, so anyone who still has the old number reaches you. A month or two of overlap is a sensible minimum.
- Tell your customers. Text your regulars from the new number, and change the old number’s voicemail greeting to give the new one.
- Update your Google Business Profile (Edit profile, then Contact, then Phone number), then your website, Apple Maps, Yelp, Facebook, cards and truck.
- When calls to the old number have slowed to a trickle, cancel TextNow.

- No free plan. It’s $19.99 a month, or $99.99 a year with 3 days free.
- No number porting. You get a new local US number; you can’t move an existing number in.
- No international numbers or calling. Numbers are US only, for calling and texting US numbers.
- Calls, texts and Mia aren’t bundled into the plan; they use credits. At zero credits they pause until you add more, and your number stays yours.
- No 911 calls. Keep your regular phone for emergencies.
